As per usual, it was another warm sunny weekend for South West Championships, perfect for some indoor volleyball… Exeter Storm, for the third year in a row, claimed victory in the Men’s category – déjà vu of the previous two years beating Wiltshire Mavericks in the final – this time 2-0; 25-21, 25-23. The route to the final was a bit rocky this year, with a different Saturday and Sunday squad there were some definite less than ideal times, including two losses in the pool games on the Saturday. Congratulations to the 6 players who made their SW Champs debut for Exeter Storm this year. It was nearly thrown away in the semi-final against Bristol VC where Storm fell points behind with 5 minutes left to go on the clock (dreaded timed games!) but Storm managed to win 26-21 and seal a place in the final, in the nick of time. As always, it was a pleasure to play such a tournament, with all teams in good spirits and superb organisation, as per usual, by Dave and Rachel. A well-deserved break from indoor volleyball now, and for Exeter Storm next season, bring on the new challenge that is NVL Division 1.
