2023 saw the 50th anniversary of the Southwest Championships. This year it was held at Plymouth Marjon University as enteries from the top teams in the region made for a sell out event. After dropping one match all weekend Exeter Storm went into the semi-final vs City of Bristol 1 who they lost to in the 2019 final. Roles were reversed this year as Exeter Storm clinched a comfortable victory, 27-16. The other semi-final saw Wiltshire Mavericks beat Bristol VC 24 – 23. The final, best of three sets, saw Exeter Storm beat Mavericks 2 – 0 (25-17, 25-10). This was a momentus occasion for the club who finally were able to take home the trophy after multiple years of “almosts” and “nearlys”.
